Home movies made by the family of Carl Hirota DDS and his spouse Uta Hirota, with the appearance of their daughter Joyce.
Dr. Hirota was born in 1909 in Port Blakey, Washington. He practiced dentistry in San Francisco's Japantown and was a clinical instructor of dentistry at University of California, San Francisco. He was president of the San Francisco chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL). From April 1942, the Hirotas were incarcerated at the Topaz Relocation Center in Delta, Utah. After much effort, Dr. Hirota received a commission as an Army dentist in the 442nd Infantry Regiment, serving in Mississippi, Minnesota and Wisconsin. He reestablished his dental practice in San Francisco in 1946, now operated by the third generation of his family.
